GUEST OF HONOR
STAN LEE
Stan Lee, the Chairman Emeritus of Marvel Comics, is known to millions as the man whose Super Heroes propelled Marvel to its preeminent position in the comic book industry. Hundreds of legendary characters, including Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, The X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, The Avengers, Thor and Dr. Strange, all grew out of his fertile imagination. It was in the early 1960s that Lee ushered in what has come to be known as The Marvel Age of Comics, creating major new Super Heroes while breathing life and style into such old favorites as Captain America, The Human Torch and The Sub Mariner. During his first 25 years at Marvel, as editor, art director and head writer, Lee scripted no fewer than two and as many as five complete comic books per week. His prodigious output may comprise the largest body of published work by any single writer. Additionally, he wrote newspaper features, radio and television scripts and screenplays. By the time he was named publisher of Marvel Comics in 1972, Lee's comics were the nation's biggest sellers. In 1977, he brought the Spider-Man character to newspapers in the form of a syndicated strip. This seven-days-a-week feature, which he has written and edited since its inception, is the most successful of all syndicated adventure strips, appearing in more than 500 newspapers worldwide. In 1981, Marvel launched an animation studio on the West Coast and Lee moved to Los Angeles to become creative head of Marvel's cinematic adventures. He began to transform his Spider-Man and Hulk creations into Saturday morning television and paved the way for Marvel's entry into live-action feature films. Lee served as Executive Producer for the worldwide blockbusters Spider-Man I, II & III, The X-Men I, II, III, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four I & II, Daredevil, X-Men Origins:Wolverine, The Incredible Hulk and others. His television credits include serving as Co-Producer and Creator of Stripperella on the Spike Cable Channel and as Executive Producer on Nick Fury Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Incredible Hulk, Generation X, Spider-Man and X-Men. He is also the developer of the sci-fi reality hit, Who Wants to Be a Superhero. Lee has written more than a dozen best-selling books, including The Origins of Marvel Comics, The Best of the Worst, The Silver Surfer, How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, The Alien Factor, Bring on the Bad Guys, Riftworld, The Superhero Women and his recent biography Excelsior! The Amazing Life of Stan Lee. Stan currently serves as the Founder, Chairman and CCO of POW Entertainment an advanced media and entertainment company. The company is behind projects for Animated and Live Action Feature Films; Live Action, Reality and Animation for TV as well as publishing, multi-media, stage and internet projects. DORIAN
This multi-faceted and talented artist has garnered international fame and acclamation for his novel approach to art…a distinct style he terms "Pseudo- Realism" which is characterized not only by his intriguing subject matter but also his mastery of acrylic paints. This technique has been successful to such a degree that many professional artists have confused his work as having been done in oils or airbrush. Although a graduate of an art school in Pittsburgh, Dorian is largely self-taught. He devoted his talents to conquering the imposing and difficult medium of acrylics because, unlike oils, they have a fast drying time which suited him with his need to finish a painting in two or three days without being burdened by the delay of waiting for oil paints to dry. This characteristic of acrylics has been an important element in allowing Dorian to create a large volume of paintings in a relatively short time. Initially, after completing school, Dorian did artwork as a freelancer for corporations such as Disney, U.S. Steel, Carnegie Science Center and many others. Though earning a good living, he felt inhibited by the requirements of commercial art through the concepts and dictates of the business world, and having a desire to do his own interpretive work, struck out on his own. Soon he was doing covers for magazines, illustrations for various publications and having exhibitions of his original work in Europe and the United States. Several art books exclusively dedicated to his works soon followed. Numerous illustrated articles and interviews on his art and techniques were published in this country as well as throughout Europe and Asia while sales of his original work and reproductions in the form of high quality giclees and other prints have been well received internationally by fans and collectors of his art. Recently Yamato Toys USA based in Japan released a highly successful figure based on one of Dorian's paintings, "Akira" and following the success of this unique venture, Yamato is due to release a second figure in the summer of 2009, based on Dorian's painting "The Sacrifice". Having become highly successful as a freelance artist, Dorian has a desire to impart and share the knowledge he acquired through his acute analysis of the materials and techniques he employs to professionals and those with little or no experience who are desirous of becoming proficient in this medium . Currently teaching his own course titled "Dorian Cleavenger's Fantasy Art Program" with personally taught classes in airbrush, acrylics and conceptual art and design at the prestigious Douglas Education Center near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, it has given him an outlet and the satisfaction of seeing his students accomplish their artistic desires under his personal and involved tutorage. Also Dorian has recently completed work on a personal tutorial DVD which is available for purchase over his website as well as through other retailers. The purpose of this DVD is to help the viewer, whether he is an accomplished artist or a beginner. As well as displaying a gallery of this prolific artist's paintings, there is a featured segment on Dorian's thoughts concerning the long historic struggle against imposed censorship and restrictions of self-expression of the world's artists by various authorities. To view more of Dorian's images visit his website: www.dorianart.com. For more on Dorian's classes visit the Douglas Education Center's website: www.dec.edu

In 1966, long-time friend Roy Thomas approached Gary about an editorial job at Marvel Comics. Gary joined the Marvel Bullpen and soon became the writer for Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos. Gary also wrote for such titles as Captain America, X-Men, Captain Marvel, The Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Black Widow from Amazing Adventures and various non-superhero features, including Westerns such as The Gunhawks. MICHAEL GOLDEN
Artist/writer/creator Michael Golden, co-creator of the X-men’s Rogue character, has a legion of devotees that number not only in aficionados of his work, but other artists as well. The "artist’s artist" as it were--namely because of his signature story construction, and an art style uniquely his own. Known for his detailed pencil work on "The 'Nam," "Micronauts," "G.I. Joe Yearbook," and "Dr. Strange, " among much more, Golden, modestly never says which is his own personal favorite project. However, according to one art dealer, "Everybody in the business has been influenced by Golden’s "Dr. Strange." Michael himself admits that most artists that say he has an influence on their illustration career, do single out that project. Milestones in Golden's career include the co-creation of "Bucky O'Hare," which led to an animated series and toy line designed by Michael, as well as “Spartan X” with Jackie Chan, “Inside Kung Fu” columnist Ric Meyers and editor Renee Witterstaetter. In addition, Vanguard Productions recently released a Manga version of the “Bucky” series now in its second printing, as well as the definitive art book “Excess: The Art of Michael Golden." In addition, Modern Masters just released the comprehensive trade, “Modern Masters in the Studio with Michael Golden, ” as well as the companion DVD. And, Creator Chronicles released a candid DVD on Michael and his career as well. As a conceptual cover artist, Golden has penciled everything from Batman and Captain America to Vampirella-- and "Virtually every character in the industry at some point or another. I'm the one they come to when they want one of those covers with a thousand characters on them," he laughs. A member of the august Society of Illustrators in Manhattan, Michael has served as an Editor at DC Comics as well as Senior Art Director at Marvel Comics, and has worked on scores of movie production projects, including some currently in development.Michael Golden is considered a true visionary among comic artists. His recent work includes covers for such titles as Nightwing, Heroes for Hire, The Exiles, Marvel Adventures:Iron Man, The Uncanny X-Men and others. DAN GREENWALD
MIKE GRELL
Grell studied at the University of Wisconsin and the Art Institute of Chicago. His entry into the comics industry was in 1972, as an assistant to Dale Messick on the Brenda Starr comic strip. In 1973 he moved to New York, and began his long relationship with DC Comics. He worked on such titles as Aquaman, Batman, the Phantom Stranger, and, most notably, Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes. He also worked with writer Denny O'Neil on the re-launch of the Green Lantern/Green Arrow series in 1976. He cemented his status as a fan-favorite with his best-known creation Warlord, one of the first sword and sorcery comics and reportedly the best-selling title published by DC Comics in the late-1970s. Through the 1980s Grell developed grittier, down-to-earth titles such as Green Arrow at DC Comics and his creator-owned Jon Sable Freelance and Starslayer at First Comics. Sable was adapted into a short-lived television series and was later novelized by Grell. Grell wrote and drew the Tarzan comic strip from July 19, 1981 to February 27, 1983 (except for one strip, February 13, 1983, by Thomas Yeates). These strips were rerun in newspapers in 2004 - 2005. Among other comic projects, Grell wrote and illustrated a three-part James Bond mini-series, Permission to Die, and authored the graphic novel adaptation of the Timothy Dalton Bond film License to Kill . Grell has also written Iron Man for Marvel Comics. Mike Grell's artwork is distinctive and highly detailed, with a scratchboard-like feel. Conversely, his writing is tight and minimalist, often letting his art speak for itself during action sequences. His early artwork in particular shows a strong Neal Adams influence. He is an avid big-game hunter, which serves as an influence on his artwork and story lines, particularly in the Jon Sable Freelance series. Mike recently released a new John Sable miniseries online at Comicmix.com and he is currently illustrating a project entitled The Pilgrim written by actor/writer/director Mark Ryan also from Comicmix.com. In 2009, Mr. Grell returns to his most famous creation, Warlord with a new ongoing series from DC Comics. Mike will be writing and providing covers for the series.

ADAM HUGHES
Adam Hughes is most commonly known for his stylized renderings of women; super heroines, damsels in distress, figures in fantasy. About the time Adam began making waves in art circles and his artwork really began to be noticed, the term "Good Girl Art" had been coined, and it best describes exactly what Adam does. He is considered by many to be one of a new generation of Good Girl artists inspired by Petty, Vargas and Elvgren. When describing his own work, Adam has used the term "naturalistic" as opposed to the term "realistic" ; which describes what he does perfectly. Adam began working in comics at the age of 19, in 1985. In 1988 Adam lent his talents to a comic book called MAZE AGENCY; a book which many consider to be his first real artistic "run" on a title. He did over a year on the book; of both interior and cover artwork. In 1989 Adam began working on his first "mainstream" comic book title: DC Comic's JUSTICE LEAGUE. He worked on the book for almost 2 years, doing covers and interiors until 1990, then switching to supplying artwork for just the covers. Eight years later, Adam began what many see as his most acclaimed cover work. Adam's recognizably strong and elegantly drawn women have graced the covers of four years worth of DC Comics WONDER WOMAN title. Prior to Wonder Woman, Adam had a short run on the Dark Horse series GHOST, which many feel a noteworthy point in his career. It was here that we see Adam relying heavily on art nouveau influences in his attempt to create a "Film Noir" genre in comics. This was also about the time that Adam first worked on GEN-13: Ordinary Heroes for Wildstorm; which gave him an opportunity to write and draw his own run on a book. Adam has since worked on a variety of projects, for major publishers and in dependants, including Top Cow's TOMB RAIDER, Mike Oeming's HAMMER OF THE GODS, Black Bull Entertainment's GATECRASHER, Mark Wheatley's FRANKENSTEIN MOBSTER, to name but a few. Today Adam is best known as a cover artist. He pencils, inks and colors his own covers, using both traditional and digital mediums. His artwork can be seen on an amazing assortment of comic book covers. His stunning covers have included Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Red Sonja, Star Wars and many others. Adam also worked as a conceptual artist on the recent WATCHMEN MOVIE. He is currently working on the much anticipated ALL STAR WONDER WOMEN as well as various cover work including covers to the new POWERGIRL Series.

It's the story of real life, cranked up a notch. The first issue of SIP was published by Antarctic Press in 1993. It was the first comic book ever drawn by Terry. He had conceived of the idea for SIP while trying to develop a comic strip for newspaper syndication. After repeated failures, Terry was introduced to the new wave of small press comic book publishing. Terry submitted copies of his comic to a number of publishers before agreeing to a miniseries from Antarctic Press. After the miniseries, he launched his own imprint, Abstract Studio and began self-publishing. Since then, SIP has garnered Terry an Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series and the GLAAD Award for Best Comic Book. ALEX SAVIUK
Alex Saviuk began his professional career at DC Comics in May 1977 after studying sequential art with WILL EISNER at The School of Visual Arts in NYC. Within a few short months, he became the regular artist on such titles as GREEN LANTERN and THE FLASH. His resume extended to include SUPERMAN, HAWKMAN, AQUAMAN, The ATOM, and AIR WAVE, among others. In 1986, Alex forged ahead to MARVEL COMICS after fill-ins on IRON MAN #211 and STARBRAND #3, he soon became the penciller on DEFENDERS OF THE EARTH featuring The PHANTOM, FLASH GORDON, and MANDRAKE. Then, after successfully filling in on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, he started a 7+ year run on WEB OF SPIDER-MAN followed by 2+ more years on SPIDER-MAN ADVENTURES-- based on the animated series. In 1997-98 Alex penciled the last 12 issues of THE X-FILES for TOPPS Comics and began his current penciling run on the SPIDER-MAN Sunday newspaper strip written by STAN LEE. In 2003, Alex began his affiliation with EGMONT, a Swedish publisher chronicling the adventures of Lee Falk's character THE PHANTOM and also began inking the Spider-man Dailies as well --- in 2006 the SPIDER-MAN newspaper strip was honored with a HARVEY Award nomination. In 2004, he assisted the late great WILL EISNER on what became the final story featuring THE SPIRIT for Dark Horse called THE SPIRIT Meets THE ESCAPIST. At that time, Alex also contributed to a creator-owned venture with writer Robert Tinnell ( The Black Forest, The Wicked West, Sight Unseen, etc.) on the FEAST OF THE SEVEN FISHES, an online strip which was eventually published as a graphic novel and was honored with an EISNER Award nomination in 2006. Besides his comics work, Alex also does storyboards for advertising agencies and films, his most recent credits being THE REAPING a supernatural thriller starring Hilary Swank and LONELY HEARTS a fact-based detective thriller with John Travolta. Originally born in New York and having lived there until 15 years ago, Alex now resides in sunny Florida with his family and his lion dog Simba.
STEVE SCOTT
One of the current artists on Marvel's popular "X-Men Forever," you no doubt have seen the work of artist, Steve Scott if you are a fan of the hit TV show, Smallville as well! Not to mention a plethora of other projects... that have been garnering him a great deal of attention from editors and comic readers alike!! Steve began his sequential art career at Malibu comics, with his fan-favored and memorable stint on "Razor" for London Night, followed up by work on "New Warriors," "Hourman," and "JLA" for Marvel and DC Comics. With a resume like that, one wouldn't guess that up until recently, Steve led a duel life--firefighter by day and artist by night-- for more than sixteen years, in fact! Sadly, one horrible event brought those two identities together. On September 11, 2001, Steve watched, with the rest of the nation as the Twin Towers fell. Soon afterwards, DC Comics published "The Worlds Finest Comic Book Writers & Artists Tell Stories to Remember." Steve was selected among the few to contribute to this historical collection, which was later exhibited, and is now archived, at the Library of Congress. Another national tragedy brought Steve back fully into the comic book fold. As one of the firefighters on duty in Buloxi, MS when Hurricane Katrina hit, Steve was one of the few to be interviewed by President Bush on his tour through the area. Soon, afterwards, for a myriad of reasons, Steve decided it was time to fulfill his dream of being a comic book artist full time. Scott relocated to the renowned community of artist in Atlanta Georgia, and received all the encouragement he needed to pick up the pencil full time from his contemporaries in the area. Immediately, Steve's work began to appear in the pages of DC Comics "Shadowpact," "The Creeper," "Batman Legends of the Dark Knight," and "Checkmate." He got a particularly special kick out of bringing to life some of DC Comics strangest characters like Detective Chimp, Rex the Wonder Dog, Rag Man, The Phantom Stranger, and many others. Recent and current projects at Marvel Comics, and DC Comics include working with industry legends Louise Simonson and Chris Claremont on the titles "Magik" and "Exiles," multiple issues of the Marvel Adventures line, "She-Hulk," "Indiana Jones" for Dark Horse and a "Kyle XY" project for Disney/ABC with writer Jeff Parker. In addition, Steve has the distinction of being the only artist to do comic tie-ins for the "Batman: The Dark Knight " movie. And now he's very happy to be focusing on "X-Men Forever," also written by Claremont!

JOHN TOTLEBEN
As artist/inker on the mid-1980's series, 'Saga of the Swamp Thing', John Totleben combined the elegant line of such illustrators as Franklin Booth and Virgil Finlay with his uniquely contoured, painterly sensibility. John graduated in 1976 from Technical Memorial High, a unique vocational school where he received three years of intensive art instruction. In 1977, John entered the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Arts. In 1983, Kubert School classmate Steve Bissette paired up with John as penciler/inker team for DC's then-faltering 'Saga of the Swamp Thing'. The addition of writer Alan Moore forged an artistic team that changed the comic industry. The industry acknowledged the significance of the Moore/Bissette/Totleben 'Swamp Thing' with the Kirby Award for Best Continuing Series for three consecutive years, while in 1985 Bissette & Totleben received the Kirby Award for Best Art Team. The series introduced the character John Constantine ('Hellblazer') and provided an aesthetic template for DC's VERTIGO imprint. In 1985, John co-created the horror anthology 'Taboo' with Stephen Bissette, sharing editorial responsibilities with Bissette on the first two issues. John left 'Swamp Thing' in 1986, to join Moore again on one of their most ambitious comics projects, the third volume of Miracleman, which he penciled and inked. Totleben realized Moore's revisionist superhero saga with some of the most elaborate rendering ever seen in American comics. Then in issue #13 of Miracleman the startling news was released that the artist had been diagnosed with Retinitus Pigmentosa, a progressive eye disease characterized by night-blindness and loss of peripheral vision. Though his production rate has slowed, Totleben retains full command of his creative powers. A gifted painter, John's dramatic oils and acrylics have appeared on the covers of 'Swamp Thing', 'Hellblazer', 'The Spectre', and 'The Return of Tarzan'. John joined Steve Bissette and Rick Veitch on Alan Moore's surgically precise Silver Age Marvel satire, 1963. John went on to illustrate DC's 'Vermillion' #8 and #12, 'The Dreaming' #33, and 'Ultimate Marvel Team Up' #10. Recently, Totleben has developed an interest in digital fine art and digital printmaking.
HERB TRIMPE
Herb Trimpe spent 29 years in the comic world as an artist (1967-1996). First hired as a production assistant by editor Stan Lee, Herb showed a strong and visually different style of drawing, and was soon drawing many of Marvel's biggest and best characters. For three decades, Herb had, at one time or another, the opportunity to draw virtually every character in the Marvel universe. Probably best known for his runs on HULK and DEFENDERS, it was Herb Trimpe who penciled the first appearance of WOLVERINE. Herb also penciled other titles including WEST COAST AVENGERS, QUASAR, and the often forgotten GODZILLA, and SHOGUN WARRIORS. He also pencilled titles like 'Nick Fury', 'The 'Nam' and the 'Transformers-G.I. Joe' cross-over. Trimpe left Marvel in 1996, when his regular 'Fantastic Four' title was dropped. In recent years you can find Herb’s pencils on such titles as BPRD: The War on Frogs (Aug. 2008) for Dark Horse Comics, and a return to his signature character by drawing the eight-page story "The Death and Life of the Abomination" in Marvel's King-Size Hulk #1 (July 2008).
